Site Update: July 2010

Thanks to some serious last-ditch stash busting efforts, I have officially busted through my entire stash! I now knit from 40 or less skeins at any one time, with a goal to knock that down to 25 or less in the next two months of knitting! Because of this, the "Made In:" updates will of necessity become "Site Update:" monthly notes going forward! Before I dive into my last stash update EVER, I wanted to share for those of you following along in a feed reader some of the changes I've made to the site in the last few weeks.

** I've changed the layout of the blog a bit. I added a third column, so there are sidebars on either side of the main content column. This allows me to keep the important stuff in line with the most recent post, and keeps the sidebars from growing ridiculously long.

** I've added a "book reviews" link to the right-hand sidebar. I love reading e-books, and as I read them I try to review them here on the blog if they're something I think you'll enjoy knowing more about. The Book Reviews link will take you to a page that lists all the reviews I've done of various e-books. The page includes a short {one or two sentence} summary of my review and a link to the review, as well as the date I reviewd the product.

Now, on to the final Made In post!

As part of my commitment to knit through my stash, I'm documenting what I'm knitting both here and over at One Hundred Hats. At the end of each month, I'm sharing this round-up, a collection of everything I've finished in the past 30 or so days.

This month was huge, both in terms of amount of knits finished and stash reduction. I managed to knock out fifteen finished items {see photos below}, most of which were for either the One Hundred Hats project or the Boystown hats project.

In July I talked about my pattern-writing habitsknitting choices you can make today on your minimalist journey, focusing on the essential, how to tackle your WIP binselling patterns on Ravelry, my August Thing-A-Day Challenge, and Inside-Out Simplicity.

I re-released the Rain Down hat pattern, released the Red Velvet hat pattern and the Boystown Beanie hat pattern, and published my e-book The Minimalist Knitter's Handbook!

The other exciting side to all these finished knits was the completion of the stash-reduction project. I now knit from one bag of yarn at a time, holding no more than 40 skeins. In August that number will go down significantly, and I should hit my goal of only owning 25 skeins of yarn at a time! The next few months will continue to be hat-heavy as I finish up both my hat-knitting projects, but I have plenty of other projects in mind for the fall!

August goal: 15 finished items, which will include the One Hundred Hats project finished and the Boystown Hats project half done.
